California All Stars’ Frederico Maradei Claims Gold at 2024 Cheerleading Worlds, Marking a New Phase in His Global Career

By Reginald Percimons

Summary: California All Stars athlete wins 2024 World Championship, marking a pivotal shift in his career as an international coach, judge, and technical consultant.

IRVINE, CA – May 3, 2024 – On April 28, Frederico Maradei stood on the podium at the 2024 Cheerleading Worlds with a gold medal in hand. As an athlete with the California All Stars – Rangers, he played a key role in securing the team’s first-place finish in the International Open Large Coed Level 7 (IOLC7) division. This victory was not only a competitive milestone but also a defining moment in his transition from athlete to coach, judge, and technical consultant working across national systems.

From Brazilian Foundations to International Impact

Maradei began his cheerleading journey in Brazil’s collegiate scene at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), where the sport lacked consistent technical resources in Portuguese. Instead of adapting to these limitations, he addressed them directly by creating original rulebooks, score sheets, and routine analysis tools specifically for Brazilian programs.

These resources introduced the structure and clarity needed to advance the sport’s technical development in Brazil. His materials were adopted by university teams and national federation events, providing a foundation that many programs still use today.

This early work led to coaching and event-organizing opportunities across Brazil and eventually earned him an athletic scholarship to compete and study in the United States.

Translating Systems Between Nations

After arriving in California, Maradei joined the cheer program at Westcliff University. He competed as an athlete before advancing to Graduate Assistant and then Assistant Coach in 2024. At each stage, he implemented a technical and process-driven approach that mirrored the systems he had established in Brazil.

At Westcliff, Maradei developed routine planning based on score sheet criteria, implemented progressions that focused on safety, and led structured film analysis to identify areas for improvement. These methods contributed to the program’s rise in national rankings, including an NCA College National Championship in 2023 and a USA Collegiate title in 2024.

Fluent in both English and Portuguese, and with a deep understanding of both rulebooks, Maradei became a bridge between two distinct cheerleading systems. His bilingual knowledge allowed him to unify coaching strategies and clarify judging expectations for teams operating in international contexts.

Contributing to a Championship Season

In 2024, Maradei competed with the California All Stars – Rangers in the International Open Large Coed Level 7 division. The team won major titles at NCA All-Star Nationals and Spirit Sports Grand Nationals before closing the season with a gold medal at Cheerleading Worlds.

Maradei’s role extended beyond his on-mat performance. He was a key contributor to strategic planning, film analysis, and score sheet alignment throughout the season. His efforts helped the team refine routines, identify scoring risks, and make technical adjustments that contributed to their success.

“My approach is simple,” Maradei said. “Start with safety, build clear progressions, and make decisions that match the score sheet. When the whole team understands the structure, you can perform with purpose.”

Coaching, Judging, and Technical Consulting

Outside of competition, Maradei serves as a judge and technical consultant in both the United States and Brazil. In California, he serves as a judge for CheerPros events. In Brazil, he works with Instituto BRAVO!, where he supports initiatives related to rulebook alignment, safety standards, and coaching education.

His dual expertise is especially valuable to teams working across national lines. He provides guidance on terminology, performance expectations, and scoring differences, helping programs avoid common pitfalls in international competition.

In Southern California, Maradei also offers technical and advisory support to select all-star teams.

Academic Background and Methodology

Maradei’s coaching philosophy is informed by his academic training. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UFU and completed his MBA with honors at Westcliff University. He intends to pursue a Doctor of Business Administration with a focus on operational systems and leadership strategy.

These studies have shaped a coaching method rooted in data, safety, and structure. His process includes tracking key performance indicators, planning for peak weeks, and conducting ongoing performance reviews. By integrating technical benchmarks and progressions into every training cycle, Maradei promotes consistency, clarity, and long-term growth.

This data-based approach has proven successful at both the collegiate and all-star levels, positioning him as a valuable asset across a wide range of programs.

Future Projects and International Expansion

Looking ahead, Maradei is developing bilingual coaching guides that explain the differences between Brazilian and US rulebooks. These resources will help coaches and athletes better understand the technical expectations and judging standards across both systems.

He is also working to establish a formal pipeline between Brazilian cheer athletes and American collegiate programs. This initiative aims to simplify the transition for international talent and provide clearer pathways to academic and athletic opportunities in the United States.

Maradei will continue to judge, consult, and compete while expanding his portfolio of educational tools and cross-cultural resources.

“Cheerleading is evolving globally, but the systems and standards still differ from country to country,” he said. “The more we can standardize and explain those differences, the stronger and safer the sport becomes for everyone involved.”

Building a Career Across Borders

From university gymnasiums in Brazil to the global stage in Orlando, Frederico Maradei has built a career grounded in structure, precision, and technical mastery. His work continues to shape how cheerleading programs train, perform, and grow in two different hemispheres.

His contributions to the Rangers’ 2024 World Championship season highlight his ability to lead from within both as an athlete and as a strategist. His coaching and consulting work demonstrate a rare ability to translate across cultures and rulebooks, improving competitive standards at every level.

Whether building programs, judging routines, or publishing resources for the next generation of coaches, Maradei is helping define a more unified and technically sound future for international cheerleading.
