A New Era in Cloud Efficiency: PointFive Launches Community-Driven Cloud Efficiency Hub

As cloud spending accelerates and infrastructure becomes more complex, so too do the hidden inefficiencies that drain budgets and throttle performance. On June 25, 2025, PointFive launched the Cloud Efficiency Hub, a community-driven initiative that brings transparency and collective action to the rising problem of cloud waste. Built as a public, open-source resource, the Hub has already cataloged over 200 inefficiencies contributed by more than 70 professionals from top-tier enterprises.

Addressing a Growing Problem in the Cloud

The Hub is positioned as a foundational resource within the emerging discipline of Cloud Efficiency Posture Management (CEPM). CEPM focuses on embedding efficiency practices directly into engineering workflows, moving beyond reactive cost-cutting and toward continuous optimization.

Cloud inefficiencies, often buried in technical debt or misconfigurations, can accumulate silently over time. Left unchecked, they lead to bloated infrastructure bills and degraded performance. The Cloud Efficiency Hub addresses this head-on by creating a shared language and playbook that addresses common pitfalls.

Contributors to the Cloud Efficiency Hub, like Matt Walls, FinOps Engineer at NBCUniversal, have found immense value in the platform. “The Hub is centralizing knowledge around cloud inefficiencies in a way that hasn’t been done before,” said Matt. “It’s given me the chance to learn from global experts and share my experiences optimizing cloud environments. The Hub not only enhances your knowledge but also provides a platform to showcase your expertise and contribute to the community.”

Built by Practitioners, for Practitioners

The Cloud Efficiency Hub stands out with its collaborative, practitioner-first model. It was developed with input from contributors deeply embedded in real-world cloud environments, ensuring that every inefficiency documented reflects actual production challenges. This inclusive approach makes every cloud professional feel part of a collective effort to improve cloud efficiency.

The entries in the Cloud Efficiency Hub cover a wide range of inefficiencies, from idle compute resources to overlooked storage costs. Each record is structured to be actionable, outlining not only the problems but also why they occur and the steps to resolve them. This practical approach empowers the audience with actionable solutions to common cloud inefficiencies.

“I was immediately drawn to the Cloud Efficiency Hub because it directly addressed a need I recognized in my work,” said Christine Oji, Cloud FinOps Engineer and Founding Contributor. “By documenting common waste patterns and their drivers, the Hub reinforces the tremendous value of collective knowledge.”

The Cloud Efficiency Hub operates under a transparent governance model with three tiers: Contributors, Maintainers, and a Governing Board. This ensures the integrity of the content and the long-term sustainability of the initiative. Contributors provide their insights, Maintainers ensure the quality and relevance of the content, and the Governing Board oversees the overall direction and strategy of the Hub.

More Than Cost Management

Unlike traditional cloud cost optimization tools that focus on usage metrics or billing anomalies, the Hub takes a structural approach to inefficiency. It encourages teams to adopt a continuous approach to cloud efficiency, rather than treating it as a one-off cleanup project.

By embracing the principles of CEPM, the Hub supports a shift from cost management to architectural discipline. It promotes embedded remediation strategies that align with developer workflows, enabling teams to build and scale more efficiently from the start.

A Platform for Collective Progress

As cloud adoption matures, so must the strategies for managing its complexity. The Cloud Efficiency Hub offers more than just a catalog of problems; it offers a path forward. Through shared insight and structured collaboration, PointFive’s initiative sets a new standard for how teams can build smarter, cleaner, and more cost-effective cloud environments.

The Cloud Efficiency Hub is available to the public and designed to expand in line with its user base. Organizations and individuals interested in accessing or contributing to the knowledge base can visit hub.pointfive.co.

By turning isolated challenges into communal knowledge, the Hub is not just identifying inefficiencies. It’s transforming them into opportunities for progress.
