Brunch as a couple? This is the ideal place to do it

February is approaching and it is very clear to us that after such a hard year and in which, surely, your partner has been through both the good and the bad, love is one of the greatest things that anyone should celebrate. After the editor was asked Who, what is the plan they most enjoy doing as a couple, the almost unanimous answer was the following: brunch. The reason? We love to eat breakfast but we don’t like to wake up early or in a hurry, so attending a brunch on a Sunday morning is the IDEAL plan for anyone who is awake and wants to treat themselves to good food. In addition, this year February 14 will fall like a glove because it will be held on Sunday, not for nothing, our recommendation then would be to exchange the typical romantic dinner for this plan.

What is the place we have on the radar to do it? Phonic. It is a Mexican restaurant that opened its doors a couple of months ago and which was born out of love for our country, its seas, its land and its people. Fishing, terroir, tradition, barbecue, smoke, are some of the words that perfectly describe its gastronomic concept (created by chef Billy Maldonado), which seeks to reinterpret the flavors of Mexico, especially those of the north.

THEIR FOOD

Fish and meat are the two main protagonists in the menu of Fónico, in fact, in this place they seek to link the sea with the table in a fair and fresh way, on the other hand, if it is about meat, Fónico seeks to bring Excellent quality product that is selected from the best cattle ranches in the state of Sonora. Now, its brunch menu includes dozens of delicacies, although the stars at this time of day and which we recommend ordering, yes or yes, are the jewels of the Pacific. Oysters, chocolate clams from the Sea of Cortez, toast bar, ceviches and more … is there a better excuse to indulge ourselves during this day?

THE PERFECT SCENARIO FOR THIS DAY

Fónico is located in Roma 85, an emblematic Roman house dating back to the end of the Porfiriato and, although little is known about its history, its elegant design with quarry finishes, blacksmithing and interior work make this a unique place in Mexico City. Green vegetation on the walls, hanging lights, an open kitchen, different bar areas (perfect for an afternoon of drinks) … Fónico is a place full of contrasts and although each space has its own charm, the double height terrace can be our favorite space in the mansion.

The brunch menu includes a bit of everything, delicacies from the raw bar (ceviches, aguachile, tostadas, among others), hot starters from the sea as well as hot starters from the land, snacks (skis and potatoes) and dishes from the grill such as Sonoran flank steak. They have three options:

Brunch a la carte without drinks ($ 850).
A la carte brunch with an open bar of clamamos and beers ($ 1100).
A la carte brunch with an open bar of mimosas ($ 1250).

THE IM-PER-DI-BLES CYMBALS

The fish ceviche of the day with smoked tomato juice and tatemado avocado.
Shrimp toast.
Chilorio fish.
Grilled oysters au gratin with pork rinds or creamy chard).
Puerto Nuevo style catch of the day.
